Signs of Pregnancy
What are the most common signs?
There are many symptoms other than a missed period which can be early signs of pregnancy. If you are experiencing some of these common symptoms then be sure to take your home pregnancy test to confirm and then follow it up with a visit to your General Pediatrician GP.
Morning Sickness
Nausea or vomiting, described as Morning sickness, can occur very early into your pregnancy. The exact cause of morning sickness is not known and it can occur at any time of the day or night.
Tender, swollen or sensitive breasts
Changes to your hormone levels may make your breasts sensitive or sore in early pregnancy. You may also experience tingling or colour changes in your nipples.
Food aversions or cravings
In early pregnancy your sense of smell may be heightened and you may reject certain foods that you usually enjoy.
Food cravings can also occur, the exact reason is scientifically unknown but it is thought to be related to hormone changes.
Fatigue and more frequent urination
Can both be caused again by hormone changes.
These are just some of the early signs of pregnancy that you might experience but it is important to take a pregnancy test to be sure.
Light bleeding or cramps
Very slight bleeding or cramping may occur after conception, known as “implantation bleeding”. This is when the fertilised egg attaches to the lining of the uterus. You may also experience some spotting around the time that your period should have been due.
Mood swings
If you are pregnant, your body will be going through a lot of changes already. Your hormone imbalances may result in you feeling fine one minute and like crying the next.
These are just some of the early signs of pregnancy that you might experience. However, it is important to take a pregnancy test to be sure. If you get a positive result be sure to contact your GP to have the news confirmed.
